Ann Plagianos - dramatic soprano
Biography

Greek-American dramatic soprano Ann Plagianos made her European debut to critical acclaim in the title role of Massenet's opera (Herodiade) with Juan Pons with the Teatro Dell' Opera in Rome, Italy. A semi-finalist for the New York region of the Metropolitan Opera Competition, she has toured nationally with New York City Opera in their production of (Carmen).

Formerly a mezzo-soprano, Ann has recently made an easy transition into the dramatic soprano repertoire captivating audiences throughout the States and Europe with her dramatic stage presence, "rich, dark lower voice", "wonderful legato and a top that shimmered". Her roles include Amneris in (Aida), Eboli in (Don Carlo), Santuzza in (Cavalleria Rusticana), Laura in (La Gioconda), Azucena in (Il Trovatore), Ortrud in (Lohengrin), Principessa de Bouillon in (Adriana Lecouvreur), Adalgisa in (Norma), Flora in (La Traviata), Frugola in (Il Tabarro), Isabella in (L'Italiana in Algieri), Maddalena in (Rigoletto), the Abbess in (Suor Angelica), Suzuki in (Madama Butterfly), Prince Orlofsky in (Die Fledermaus), Lola in (Cavalleria Rusticana), Berta in (The Barber of Seville), and Mrs. McLean in (Susannah)

Displaying her versatility in both oratorio and recitals, Ms. Plagianos has performed the (Verdi Requiem), Beethoven's (Ninth Symphony and Mass in C), Handel's (Messiah), Mozart's (Requiem), Haydn's (Lord Nelson and St. Cecilia's Mass), Bach's (Magnificat and Christmas Oratorio), Pergolesi's (Miserere), and P.D.Q. Bach's (The Seasonings) with Professor Peter Schickele.

Ann was honored to be a featured soloist in a tribute to Maestro Nello Santi which was televised throughout Europe on RAI television at Steinway Hall. The dramatic soprano has made her successful debut at Avery Fisher Hall with Met baritone Theodore Lambrinos in a program entitled (A Musical Salute to the Hellenic Spirit) and has appeared with Maestro Anton Coppola in Opera Tampa's production of (La Traviata). She has performed with Met bass Dimitri Kavrakos in a Christmas concert in New Jersey and has debuted with Connecticut Grand Opera in their production of (Macbeth) with Maestro Gilgore. Ann has recently appeared with Opera on the Hudson in a concert entitled (A Spring Festival of Opera).
